Hello everybody!

The last few has been quite busy. On the 27th of November we got a delivery from the sky, to be precise we got 200 barrels of oil that were dropped in parachutes out of a Iluyshin 76 cargo plane that passed over us. The also sent us a kind of a snow plough which we plan to use to smoothen the runway. I must admit we are getting pretty tired of using shovels to smoothen a 1.800 meters long runway! Before the shipment arrived we had chosen a landing place for the shipment. Some of the parcels landed inside that area, but most of them were scattered all over the place! It took us 4 days to clean up the area, arrange the barrels in a tidy order, pick up the parachutes and all the wrapping.

It is not an easy task to reposition 40 tons of oil barrels in deep snow, but the Arctic Trucks vehicles have been specially equipped to do this task. The running-boards can be assembled so it makes a crane which is fastened at the front of the vehicle. Using the crane, it is easy to lift up the barrels and drive them to their correct location. This task is done safely and with ease, the next hospital is far away and it is better to avoid any mishaps. “Slow but sure, slow but sure,” says Andrey regularly and he is quite right about this.

While we were working on this another plane landed here, this time with a group of Chinese tourists. They thought it was very cold here and my feeling is that they will avoid cold places in the future. But it was obvious that they were living the greatest adventure of their lives!
Our vehicles and all our equipment is doing great, just as our self. It is quite a task to keep all the equipment in good conditions in this situation. The extreme cold makes the metal fragile, rubber that is supposed to me soft becomes hard and the lubricant looks like and old syrup in minus 30 degrees. But the vehicles are designed to tackle these kind of situation and the Arctic Trucks experience in arctic territories helps us complete our tasks without a problem.

Best regards from the end of the world,
Atli Páls.

P.S. Iceland won the Domino game, just barely!

Slow but sure, slow but sure segir Andrey reglulega og þar hittir hann naglann á höfuðið.
